The Clallam County PUD Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution opposing Initiative 732, the Carbon Pollution Tax, at their May 9, 2016, Board meeting. Clallam County PUD’s proposed Community Solar Project’s participation achieved 85%, but did not receive enough interest within the allotted time to fund and initiate the Project without further discussion. The Board of Commissioners is scheduled to discuss the Project, including whether or not to proceed with construction, at their May 23rd meeting. Clallam PUD’s lighting rebate program helped the City of Forks successfully complete its streetlight LED Conversion Project at no direct cost to the City. Converting the old high pressure sodium and metal halide streetlights to more energy efficient LED lights will save the City of Forks an estimated 149,000 kWh per year in energy savings, equaling $9,000 per year in utility bill savings as well as an additional estimated $5,000 in maintenance savings.
