Stage 2 Drought Response for the Fairview Water System – Conservation Encouraged
July 16, 2024

PUD #1 of Clallam County (PUD) is requesting that water utility customers in the Fairview Water System begin voluntary water conservation measures. This is a Stage 2 Response from the District’s Drought Response Plan. The Fairview Water System is a portion of the Port Angeles Composite Water System between Morse Creek and McDonald Creek. Rate codes FV-C and FV-R on a PUD water bill indicate that the service location is within the Fairview Water System.

The Morse Creek Surface Water Treatment Plant is a primary source of drinking water supply for the Fairview Water System. The U.S. Geological Service (USGS) predicts that Morse Creek streamflow will drop to 25 cubic feet per second (cfs) within 2-3 weeks. The District must cease drinking water production from the Morse Creek Surface Water Treatment Plant when flows fall below 25 cfs.

Once Morse Creek falls below 25 cfs, two groundwater wells in the lower Fairview System will provide 100% of the water supply for the Fairview Water System until consistently higher flows return to Morse Creek. While these groundwater wells are capable of reliably supplying the Fairview Water System through the dry season, the PUD is asking Fairview customers to voluntarily reduce their overall water usage to mitigate the added demand on these wells.

The objective of the Stage 2 Drought Response is to encourage customers to conserve and prepare customers for additional drought response measures.

• Reduce outdoor water use.
• Fix all leaky faucets and toilets.
• Take shorter showers, not baths.
• Install low-flow showerheads and faucets.
• Operate automatic dish and clothes washers only when full.
• Reuse clean household water. Collect all water that is wasted while waiting for the hot water to reach your faucet. Use this water for houseplants or outdoor plants.
• Use water efficient appliances.

A Stage 2 Drought Response Alert has been issued for the Clallam Bay Sekiu Water System. A Stage 3 Drought Response Alert with mandatory outdoor restrictions has been issued for the Island View Water System.
