Stage 2 Drought Response for Clallam Bay/Sekiu Water System – Conservation Encouraged
July 16, 2024

PUD #1 of Clallam County (PUD) is requesting that water utility customers in the Clallam Bay/Sekiu System begin voluntary water conservation measures. This is a Stage 2 Response from the District’s Drought Response Plan. The Clallam Bay/Sekiu Water System serves the communities of Clallam Bay and Sekiu as well as the Clallam Bay Corrections Center.

Water for the Clallam Bay/Sekiu Water System is supplied from a well field near the Hoko River. Based on streamflow data collected and evaluated by the U.S. Geological Service (USGS), the Hoko River streamflow is expected to drop below 14 cubic feet per second (cfs) within 3 weeks. This forecast meets the criteria for a Stage 2 Drought Response.

The objective of the Stage 2 Drought Response is to encourage customers to conserve water wherever possible and prepare customers for additional drought response measures later in the season. Some ways water can be conserved by customers include:

• Reduce outdoor water use.
• Fix all leaky faucets and toilets.
• Take shorter showers, not baths.
• Install low-flow showerheads and faucets.
• Operate automatic dish and clothes washers only when full.
• Reuse clean household water. Collect all water that is wasted while waiting for the hot water to reach your faucet. Use this water for houseplants or outdoor plants.
• Use water efficient appliances.
