Hydropower
Clallam PUD is proud to source its electricity from over 94% clean
energy resources! Over 83% of this is from our wonderful Northwest hydropower system,. While we encourage and support renewable energy from wind and solar, those are only able to be successful if backed by the reliability of hydropower, which can be quickly ramped up or down as needed (when the wind doesn’t blow, the sun doesn’t shine, or other energy demands are in place.) With the passage of the Energy Independence Act and Clean Energy Transformation Act, our hydropower system has recently become exponentially more valuable and resource adequacy is something utilities are watching carefully.
