Heating & Cooling Equipment

  1. Inspect your heating system’s filters and set-up a replacement schedule. Generally, you should change them about once every month or two, especially during periods of high usage.
  2. Inspect heating and cooling equipment annually — or as recommended by the manufacturer. Have a professional check and clean your equipment once a year.
  3. Check your ductwork for dirt streaks, especially near seams. These indicate air leaks, and they should be sealed with duct mastic.
  4. Insulate (R-6 or greater) any ducts or pipes that travel through unheated spaces.

Note: If your heating system is more than 15 years old, you should strongly consider replacing it with a newer, high-efficiency system. Today’s heating systems are much more energy efficient than in years past.
