Temporary Outdoor Watering for Holiday Weekend – Fire Prevention
July 2, 2015

PUD #1of Clallam County (PUD), with approval from the Washington Department of Ecology, is allowing PUD water customers in the Upper Fairview Area to use outdoor water to wet down areas around homes and building during the 4th of July holiday weekend due to the potential for fireworks related fires.

The Upper Fairview Area has been under a Stage 4 Water Shortage Alert since June 10th.   Mike Kitz, PUDs Water and Wastewater System Superintendent, says, “This is only a temporary outdoor watering allowance at this time.  The PUD will notify customers once the Stage 4 Water Shortage Alert is no longer in effect.”

The temporary outdoor water allowance expires at midnight on July 5th After midnight on that date the full Stage 4 Water Shortage Alert is in effect, meaning no additional outside water usage is allowed.

All PUD water customers are encouraged to conserve water.  The PUD recently launched a water conservation marketing campaign, featuring information on its website, social media channels, traditional media outlets, and customer newsletters.  Water conservation tips can be found at: http://www.clallampud.net/water-saving-tips/.

In March, Governor Inslee declared a drought emergency for the North Olympic Region due to the lack of snowpack, and on May 15th, the Governor declared a statewide drought emergency as well.
