8/28/23 Update

The City of PA  began repairs on the transmission main leak yesterday afternoon. Repairs were expected to be completed early this morning and 18 hr bacteriological samples will be taken. Once repairs are made, City staff will evaluate their reservoir levels and see if they can get through today without placing the repaired section of transmission main into service. If water is needed and the main is placed into service, the City will issue a precautionary boil water notice. A boil water notice issued by the City will not apply PUD water customers

PUD personnel were able to make system adjustments throughout the weekend in order to utilize the Fairview Bluffs Wells as the sole source of supply for the entire Port Angeles Composite Water System (Upper/Lower Fairview, Gales Addition, Mt. Angeles and Monroe water systems). If the City issues a boil water notice, the PUD will not reactivate the Port Angeles feed to the Gales Addition Reservoir until the boil water notice is lifted.

PUD #1 of Clallam County (PUD) is requesting that water utility customers in the Lower Fairview water system begin voluntary water conservation measures.

A City of Port Angeles water main break has cut off the normal supply of water to the Gales Addition reservoir. The Gales Addition reservoir feeds the PUD’s Gales Addition, Mt. Angeles and Monroe water systems. An interconnection between the Fairview water system and Gales Addition water system has been opened in order to maintain water levels in the Gales Addition reservoir.

The interconnection between Gales Addition and Fairview will place additional demand on the Fairview water system. Due to low flows in Morse Creek, water production in the Fairview water system is currently limited. Therefore, the PUD is requesting that water utility customers in the Lower Fairview water system begin voluntary water conservation measures. Stage 2 Water Conservation Alerts have already been released for the Upper Fairview, Gales Addition, Mt. Angeles and Monroe water systems. Customers in those systems can also help by stepping up voluntary water conservation measures while the City of Port Angeles works to restore the feed to the Gales Addition Reservoir.

Ways that customers can conserve water:

• Reduce outdoor water use.
• Fix all leaky faucets and toilets.
• Take shorter showers, not baths.
• Install low-flow showerheads and faucets.
• Operate automatic dish and clothes washers only when full.
• Reuse clean household water. Collect all water that is wasted while waiting for the hot water to reach your faucet. Use this water for houseplants or outdoor plants.
• Use water efficient appliances.

The Status of Other PUD Water Systems:
Stage 2 Water Conservation Alerts have been issued for Upper Fairview, Gales Addition, Mt. Angeles and Monroe Water Systems. A Stage 3, Water Conservation Alert, has been issued for the Clallam Bay Sekiu Water Systems. A, Stage 4 Mandatory Outdoor Restrictions and Indoor Conservation Alert has been issued for the Island View Water System.
